 Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to those children and families who need them most.
Founded in 1966, RIF is the oldest and largest children's and family nonprofit literacy organization in the United States. RIF’s highest priority is reaching underserved children from birth to age 8. Through community volunteers in every state and U.S. territory, RIF provides 4.5 million children with 16 million new, free books and literacy resources each year.
All RIF programs combine three essential elements to foster children's literacy: reading motivation, family and community involvement, and the excitement of choosing free books to keep.
RIF's accomplishments are due in part to the generous support of the U.S. Department of Education, corporations, foundations, community organizations, and thousands of individuals.

Donor of the Month
We are delighted to recognize Holiday Inn Express as our May Donor of the Month. For the second year, Holiday Inn Express is encouraging guests to Stay Smart® and help raise $100,000 to support RIF’s mission.
As part of their commitment to support RIF, Holiday Inn Express, America’s fastest growing hotel brand, has implemented a variety of programs to engage guests, employees and community members. When guests book a room at a Holiday Inn Express hotel, or any other hotel in the Intercontinental Hotel Group family, 9% of the room rate will go directly to RIF. Additionally, Holiday Inn Express hotels nationwide will participate in “Help Kids Stay Smart” fundraising promotions throughout the year. The first promotion encourages guests to Add-A-Dollar” to their bill in support of RIF from April 14–May 18. RIF is excited to work with Holiday Inn Express to continue to support children’s literacy and make a difference in the lives of kids in our communities.
