RIF Read-In

The RIF Read-In is a locally organized literacy event sponsored by Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF) that promotes reading for fun for the entire community. Its purpose is to demonstrate to children the importance of making reading a daily activity, and to increase community involvement in support of reading and literacy development.

RIF Read-In logoBased on the popular "drop everything and read" concept, the RIF Read-In is a one-day event; at its heart is a 20-minute literacy break for children, families, and community members to read together or alone, aloud or silently, on a day and time selected by the organizing group. Children and adults can read whatever they want, whether it's a book, magazine, newspaper, comic book, graphic novel, or even a picture book—as long as it is not required reading for school or work. This short reading break reminds children how much fun reading can be and offers adults an opportunity to get involved by showing kids they love to read, too.

RIF encourages any group, organization, or corporation that wants to support children's literacy to organize a RIF Read-In in its community. Running a RIF Read-In can be the first step in establishing reading for fun as a top priority in your community.
