Application Developer

Purpose of Job
Develop web-based applications on the ASP.Net Platform which connect with MS-SQL databases. Help in the maintenance and expansion of RIF's Information System.
Scope
Reports directly to Application Developer Manager. Maintains extensive contact with IS Department staff and frequent contact with other RIF staff and outside vendors and consultants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Construct web-based applications using Visual Studio on the .NET platform. Develop well-structured code following standards that can be reused in other applications. Provides easy-to-use interfaces to systems that take advantage of web-based environments.
- Develop major modules of computer applications that meet business requirements. Participates in the gathering of system requirements for application and documentation of system specifications.
- Develop data access routines using SQL to access data from SQL Server databases.
- Works under the direction of the Help Desk to provide troubleshooting and support for existing applications. Develop enhancements and incorporates new modules into existing systems.

- Cross-train other IS staff in web-based application development.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Application Developer Manager and/or the Vice President of IS.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related Field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- 3 to 5 years experience with application development projects, with at least one year of solid ASP.NET using C# development experience required.
- Experience working with current Microsoft SQL Server technologies. Knowledge of writing SQL for tables, views, stored procedures and triggers, and must be experienced with using a Data Access Layer to interact with the database Experience with client-side programming and tools such as JavaScript, AJAX Toolkit, and jQuery.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, quality-focused ability to work effectively both on teams and independently with minimal direction, willingness to take initiative required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including some programming for Office is desired.
- Experience in off-the-shelf package implementation; familiarity with System Development Life Cycle; knowledge of networking concepts; experience implementing Web based solutions.
