Web Content Producer

Purpose of Job
The Web Content Producer plays a key role in developing RIF's online presence with responsibility for editorial operation of www.RIF.org and integration of RIF's web, blog, e-marketing, and social networking activities.
Scope
The Web Content Producer will report to the Director of Creative Services as a member of RIF's Marketing and Communication team. The individual will forge strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners including consultants in the literacy and education field. The successful candidate will be a top-notch editorial thinker, able to conceive and create great content (informative and inspirational) for audiences interested in RIF and children's literacy. This position requires a highly organized and creative online communications professional with strong writing and editing skills as well as experience in and a passion for working with multimedia web technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce, write, and edit content for all sections of RIF.org (including RIF's kids' sites and campaign-specific microsites) using best practices for content development, content delivery, and site maintenance.
- Manage an effective editorial planning process including the development of a comprehensive online communications to ensure site content is up-to-date, accurate and engaging.
- Identify key opportunities to reach out to online constituents and integrate online activities with social media, organizational initiatives, and print publications.
- Manage content using RedDot content management system and work with in-house designer and third-party vendors to maintain look and feel of site.
- Work with Web Designer/Developer and Media Coordinator to develop multimedia content using video, photography and audio hardware and software.
- Manage external consultants and vendors.
- Develop content for RIF's social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and You Tube, as needed.
- Write and edit copy for print publications as needed.
- Support online partnerships with other organizations to expand website RIF's content and more effectively raise awareness of RIF and children's literacy.
- Participate in and help develop strategies to promote the RIF website to public and internal audiences, via electronic newsletters, conferences/events, and other outlets.
- Keep current with emerging web technologies and monitor other websites focused on reading, education, and literacy.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Bachelor of Arts degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field.
- 4-6 years professional editorial experience and managing website production with a proven track record of increasing audience engagement.
- Excellent writing, editing, visual design, and proofreading skills.
- Preferred experience in writing for education and literacy-related audiences.
- Familiarity with editorial styles such as AP and Chicago.
- 3+ years experience working with web content management systems; with extensive understanding of writing template-driven dynamic content.
- Solid understanding of and experience with web technologies including both front end and back end applications.
- Must be disciplined in managing workflow from varied inputs and streamlining inputs to one user experience; ability to identify and be an advocate for end user goals and needs.
- Experience using Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign
- Ability to analyze and hand-code basic HTML.
- Experience with Google Analytics and Google Adwords.
- Experience in online marketing strategy.
- Ability to communicate effectively within a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
- Superior project management and organizational skills with experience managing multiple projects and changing priorities under tight deadlines.
- Must be a highly creative, technically savvy, self-motivated, and conceptual thinker.
- Familiar with current literacy and educational issues.
- Fluent in written and spoken Spanish a plus
