He has worked to strengthen RIF's multicultural literacy campaign by supporting the South Texas Literacy Coalition, partnering with community- and school-based national organizations such as PTA and Urban League, and leading RIF's outreach to American Indian tribes and advocacy groups. Leach joined RIF in May, 2004 serving one year as a program specialist working with coordinators from Illinois, Indiana, Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. In 2005 he joined RIF's government relations team, serving first as the coordinator, then director of the department. Leach previously worked as a counselor and case worker for several child and adult development agencies in North Carolina and Maryland. Leach received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Wake Forest University. |

Stephen Leach was named vice president of government relations and community outreach in June 2009. He oversees government relations initiatives that educate and inform members of Congress about RIF and its programs. His responsibilities include managing annual events like RIF's Dear Colleague funding campaign, "See What's Brewing with RIF" coffee event on Capitol Hill, and RIF's Back to School children's letter drive. He also conducts congressional reading celebrations across the country and meetings with House and Senate members, their staff members, and RIF coordinators, volunteers, board members, and supporters.
