"Gabrielle Miller's experience as a teacher, education researcher and an administrator will prove invaluable in furthering RIF's mission of helping our nation's youngest and most vulnerable children—and their families—discover the joy of reading," said Carol H. Rasco, RIF's president and CEO. Before joining RIF, Miller served as assistant vice president of Educational Programs at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Md., where she held a number of positions over the past 14 years. In that role Miller was primarily responsible for new program development and educational research. Among her recent research efforts Miller was a co-investigator on two reading research projects each of which evaluated interventions for children at-risk for learning failure; one focused on preschool populations and the other on adolescent populations. Concurrently, she served as an assistant professor in The Johns Hopkins University's Department of Special Education and will retain her status there as adjunct faculty. Miller, who began her career as a special education teacher in the Queen Anne's County, Maryland Public School system, received her bachelor's degree in elementary and special education from the University of Delaware. She later received a master’s degree and doctorate in special education from The Johns Hopkins University. "It's extremely important to enable all children, especially those at risk, to experience the pure joy of reading." Miller stated when discussing her interest in RIF. "RIF programs offer opportunities for children and their families to simply have fun reading. When they do, it's more likely that they will choose to read again and again. That's our goal." Miller is a current member of the Maryland Committee for Children's Early Intervention Initiative Advisory Board and the Villa Julie College, Department of Human Services Advisory Board. |

In January, 2007 RIF appointed Gabrielle E. Miller, Ed.D., as Vice President of Education and Literacy Programs. She manages all RIF literacy programs, including the National Book Program, Family of Readers and Shared Beginnings programs.
