2005 Half-Million Book Program

Just as students across the country are getting ready to return to their classrooms, Albertsons, The Coca-Cola Company, Scholastic and RIF are launching a national literacy program to provide books to selected RIF programs in communities throughout the country. Through this exciting effort Albertsons stores, The Coca-Cola Company and RIF volunteers will distribute more than 500,000 new books to children this summer and fall.
This year's program builds upon the continued education efforts of Albertsons and Coca-Cola who joined together in June of 2001 to bring the joy of reading to their community's children, families and schools. At the conclusion of this year's program, Albertsons and Coca-Cola will have donated over two million books to children and families across America in just four years. In the picture above, Albertsons CEO Larry Johnson and Albertsons Director of Community Relations Dee Mooney read to children at an event in Boise, ID.
RIF is proud to join them to expand the donation locations and offer critical literacy services to thousands of the nation's neediest kids. Because low literacy is one of the most important issues facing the country, Albertsons, Coca-Cola, Scholastic and RIF are committed to raising awareness about the importance of reading in homes, classrooms, and communities through this in-store program.
