Czechoslovakia native Peter Sís is an author, illustrator, and filmmaker of international acclaim.
He originally came to the U.S. to produce a film about the 1984 Winter Olympics. When Czechoslovakia boycotted, Peter remained in the U.S. and eventually met Maurice Sendak, who helped Peter start a new career as a children’s illustrator.
Peter’s 20 books have won multiple awards, including the Caldecott Honor and the New York Times Book Review Best Illustrated Book of the Year. Some of his most notable books are The Whipping Boy, Follow the Dream, Komodo!, and Starry Messenger: Galileo Galilei.
