List of Service Organizations

rifflagThe number of RIF partnerships with service organizations, and other organizations with large national or regional memberships, continues to grow. To help you in identifying groups that could support your program, we are including a list of organizations that are currently providing RIF projects with money, volunteers, and/or in-kind support.

Civic and service organizations, for example, play a large role in RIF. A number of these—including Kiwanis, General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Jaycees, Links, Altrusa, and the American Association of University Women—have education or young children as a priority.

Some sororities and fraternities are also dedicated to promoting education or literacy. One of the oldest women’s fraternities, Kappa Kappa Gamma, adopted RIF as its national philanthropy in 2004. http://www.kappakappagamma.org/ 

American Association of University Women
Membership organization dedicated to the advancement of women. Local groups sponsor community-based projects with a focus on lifelong learning. http://www.aauw.org/

Alpha Delta Kappa
Honorary education sorority that sponsors grants and international education programs. http://www.alphadeltakappa.org/

Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA)
Public service sorority of African-American women, which focuses its efforts on community projects in education, leadership and employment. AKA has designated RIF as one of its five national projects. If your project is located near a college or university, call the school’s public information or Greek office number to find out if there is an AKA chapter. http://www.aka1908.com/

Altrusa International, Inc.
Professional membership organization that designs and implements community service projects in the areas of literacy, vocational training and international understanding. http://www.altrusa.com/

American Legion
Membership organization of honorably discharged veterans that sponsors projects focusing on education, children’s services, veterans affairs and rehabilitation, national security and foreign relations. http://www.legion.org/

Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc.
Organization of women’s service clubs whose members promote community projects and volunteerism in the areas of education, leadership, health, children’s and women’s issues, conservation and historical preservation. http://www.ajli.org/

Phi Beta Sigma
Social service and cultural sorority of business and professional women that operates a variety of community-based charitable programs. http://www.pbs1914.org/

Boosters Clubs
Promotes amateur sports and physical education at all levels throughout the U.S. Many local clubs in K-12 schools use proceeds from sports concession stands to support the school’s RIF project. If your program is in a school, check with your principal. 

Boys & Girls Clubs of America
A congressionally chartered national organization of clubs serving young people. Local clubs focus programs on health, social and education issues, usually in urban settings. http://www.bgca.org/

Camp Fire USA
Membership organization of local councils that conduct community-based projects aimed at improving services and conditions that affect young people. Areas of project concentration include youth recreation, self-reliance and education. http://www.campfire.org/

Catholic Daughters of the Americas
Membership organization of local groups that support religious, educational and charitable projects. http://www.catholicdaughters.org/

Chamber of Commerce of the U.S.
A federation founded in 1912 to represent the business community and to promote the free enterprise system. The chamber publishes a magazine, sponsors weekly television shows, and conducts training programs. http://www.uschamber.com/

Church Women United
Christian church women’s advocacy group that has as its priorities peace, human rights, justice, education and women’s issues. http://www.churchwomen.org/

Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
Honorary women’s education society that promotes education. http://www.deltakappagamma.org/

Delta Sigma Theta
Public service sorority of African-American women that helps establish community projects to promote education, leadership and employment.

Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks
Men’s fraternal society that supports charitable causes, education and other community-based projects. http://www.elks.org/

4-H
Community development program targeting young people. Local councils conduct programming and informational services in the areas of leadership training and education. http://www.4-h.org/

Friends of Libraries U.S.A. (FOLUSA)
Network of member organizations, groups, clubs, and associations dedicated to the development of excellent library services. Seeks to increase public awareness of libraries; sponsors workshops and education programming. http://www.folusa.com/

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)Vocational student organization for young men and women in family and consumer sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. http://www.fcclainc.org/  

General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)
Women’s volunteer service organization. GFWC headquarters staff develops initiatives with other national organizations and encourages participation on the local level by member clubs. Local clubs support programs in the arts, conservation, education, home life, public affairs and international affairs. www.gfwc.org  

Girls, Inc. (formerly Girls Clubs)
National membership organization dedicated to the education and welfare of young girls. Local groups, headed by adults, support education and recreational programs and foster leadership among young girls. http://www.girlsinc.org/

International Reading Association (IRA)
Membership organization of teachers, reading specialists, consultants, researchers, librarians and parents dedicated to improving the quality of reading instruction for all citizens. State councils sponsor workshops and conferences, in addition to supporting community reading and education projects. www.ira.org  

Kappa Kappa Gamma
Social fraternity that values service to others. In 2004, they began a national philanthropy program with RIF. http://www.kappakappagamma.org/

Kappa Delta Pi
Education honor society. Local chapters promote education projects. http://www.kdp.org/

Kappa Sigma
Social fraternity whose local chapters promote a variety of community-based projects. http://www.kappasigma.org/

Kiwanis Clubs International
Membership organization of business and professional individuals. Local clubs support community-based programs in health, education and international understanding. http://www.kiwanis.org/

Knights of Columbus
Fraternal society of Catholic men. Local groups sponsor community-based projects in a variety of areas including education and health. http://www.kofc.org/

Lions Clubs International
Membership service organization dedicated to community service. Local clubs focus attention on environmental, social and health issues. http://www.lionsclubs.org/

National Association of Junior Auxiliaries
Women’s service club organization dedicated to promoting responsible leadership through community-based projects. Areas of concentration include education, social services, and historic preservation. http://www.najanet.org/

National PTA
Membership organization of local associations of parents, teachers, students, administrators and other members of the community. Local groups seek to strengthen the home-school-community link on behalf of young people. http://www.pta.org/

National Council of Negro Women, Inc.
A coalition of 31 national organizations and individuals dedicated to the promotion and support of women in the community. Local groups sponsor community-based projects to benefit women in the areas of education, employment and international understanding. http://www.ncnw.org/

National Council of Jewish Women
Membership organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals of all ages, races, religions and socioeconomic levels. Local groups sponsor programs of education, social action and community service for youth, the elderly and women. http://www.ncjw.org/

National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods
Jewish women’s organization dedicated to the sponsorship of community-based service projects and humanitarian causes. Local groups are involved in youth activities, service to the elderly and education. www.rj.org/wrj

National Urban League, Inc.
Community service agency that draws from a variety of groups and organizations representing a cross section of the community. Local groups develop and implement community-based projects in the areas of education, health, social welfare, housing and employment. http://www.nul.org/

Optimist International
Service organization of business and professional executives. Local clubs seek to improve civic, social, industrial and commercial welfare of communities. http://www.optimist.org/

Retired Senior Volunteers Program (RSVP)
RSVP provides training for senior volunteers to support intergenerational community projects in a variety of areas including education and the social services. http://www.seniorcorps.org/about/programs/rsvp.asp

Rotary International
International membership organization of business and professional executives that undertakes community development programs focusing on education, health and international understanding. http://www.rotary.org/

Ruritan National Foundation
Membership community service organization dedicated to creating better understanding between rural and urban people. Local clubs work with young people in schools and colleges and sponsor community programs for the mentally handicapped. http://www.ruritan.org/

Soroptimist International of the Americas
Civic service organization of women business and professional executives. Local clubs focus efforts on education, the environment, health, human rights and the status of women. http://www.soroptimist.org/

United Methodist Women’s Clubs
Women’s church organization dedicated to community service. Member clubs sponsor a variety of social service projects and charitable causes. www.gbgm-umc.org/umw

United States Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees U.S.)
Civic service organization of young people dedicated to providing leadership training and the promotion of community-betterment projects. http://www.jaycees.org/

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
Membership organization of veterans. Local groups support community-based projects related to veterans affairs, international understanding, social services and education. http://www.vfw.org/

YMCA, YWCA, YWHA
Network of organizations whose local chapters provide a variety of social services to the community. These include education, health and recreational programs. http://www.ymca.net/

Zonta International
Business and executive women worldwide dedicated to advancing the status of women. Local clubs coordinate community service projects in education, health and business. http://www.zonta.org/
