The 2007 RIF Community Reading Challenge sponsored by MetLife.

Overview Since its inception, Reading Is Fundamental has focused its attention on the nation's most underserved children and has worked to demonstrate to them the joy of reading by relying on creative and engaging literacy activities. While RIF's vision is a literate nation in which all children enjoy reading, our priority is to focus on the children who struggle the most to read well and often. As part of our ongoing commitment to these readers, RIF will focus the 2007 Community Reading Challenge on the needs of Hispanic children and their families.
RIF believes that active family and community involvement help to motivate young readers. The International Reading Association has stated that "family involvement in a child’s education is a more important factor in student success than family income or [a parent's] education."
With these priorities in mind, Reading Is Fundamental, with sponsorship by the MetLife Foundation, is hosting ¡Leamos Juntos!: Let's Read Together 2007 MLF Hispanic Community Reading Challenge.
¡Leamos Juntos! fosters the next generation of lifelong readers by bringing Hispanic children, families, and the community together to participate in four fun-filled, exciting literacy activities and a Community Reading Celebration.
In this year's challenge, RIF sites will be encouraged to use imagination and creativity to organize events that share the excitement of reading with Hispanic children and their communities. Whether it is peer-to-peer reading, parent/teacher storytelling, a book distribution with community guest readers, or a celebration of Read Across America Day, the primary focus is on bringing together the Hispanic community in exciting, reading motivation activities.
Don't miss out on all the fun! Pledge now!
