Up next for Saving RIF’s Funding...
RIF children’s letters for the members of Congress!
What can you do to help? Have your RIF children write letters to Congress and drive home the message of saving RIF’s funding. Members of Congress need to keep hearing from RIF children about the books they receive in their states and districts.
Organizing a May children’s letter drive to Congress is easy using our templates and instructions. Please mail all letters to RIF by Friday, May 30, 2008.
These letters will be delivered during June, when the House and Senate appropriations subcommittees that fund RIF convene to decide the budget for RIF and other competing programs/services.
URGENT: Save RIF's Funding
FROM CAROL H. RASCO, President and CEO of Reading Is Fundamental
Please ACT NOW to help RIF continue to build support for our funding. Send an e-mail to your members of Congress asking them to support RIF during the appropriations process.
We are asking Congress to appropriate $26 million to fund RIF's book distribution program for some 4.6 million underserved children and families in fiscal year 2009.The funding is critical to support our reading motivational programs at nearly 20,000 locations nationwide.
Please e-mail your members of Congress today and ask them to support RIF’s funding. Many people have responded to our earlier alerts. Because of your action, many U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators signed the Dear Colleague letter which closed on Wednesday, March 12. Once the letters themselves are finalized, the complete list of signatories will be posted to our website.
Share this message with six or more friends who will also contact their members of Congress. We will continue to update you with any specific requests. Thank you for your support!
Take Action!
