JackieJackie White Rogers

  • RIF alum years: 1970s, 1980s.

  • Now that you are grown up, what do you do? I'm a Curriculum Specialist.

  • Favorite childhood book: The Hobbit.

  • Favorite RIF memory: As a kid who didn't really like to read, I got involved in the RIF program because of the competition involved in it. I couldn't wait for the next summer program.

As an adult I expressed my appreciation to the librarian and told her how scared I was that the bookmobile would be gone one day, just drive away. She laughed and said, "Didn't you notice that all the tires were flat? It didn't even have a motor." I went on to major in English, became a teacher and now a curriculum specialist. A lot of that began with RIF.

  • Do you still have any of your RIF books? Yes, Judy Blume books.

  • What do you read now? Southern literature.
