Jennette Rogers Skaggs

  • RIF KidRIF alum years: 1978-81

  • How long were you in the RIF program? At least first through third grade.

  • As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? In kindergarten, Hop Along Cassidy. By sixth grade, a teacher.

  • Now that you are grown up, what do you do? I taught high school English for five years. I now homeschool my children.70's

  • Favorite childhood book: Barney Bipple's Magic Dandelions by Carol Chapman and Steven Kellogg.

  • What children’s book character are you most like? Junie B. Jones.

  • Favorite RIF memory: RIF was supported by the Junior Auxillary in my hometown. Every time it was a RIF day, Big Bird and Grover would come to the school to help with the books.  I knew my momma was Big Bird, but it was just as fun.  To see all those books lying on the table, and I could just go and get one  — that is magic.80's

  • Do you still have any of your RIF books? My house burned when I was in 7th grade, and we lost all of the children's books.  But, I have spent a lot of time finding and buying books that I got through RIF.  My favorites are out of print, so the hunt can be long. I recently purchased Everything Under A Mushroom by Ruth Krauss.

  • What do you read now? Murder mysteries (preferably British), science fiction.
