RIF KidLisa Alejandro

  • RIF Alum Years: 1970s
  • Favorite RIF Memory: RIF is a great part of why I love books so much and have passed that love down to my daughters.

I loved when RIF came to my elementary school: P.S. 81 in Queens, New York. It was so exciting. I even remember some of the books that I got from RIF(smiles)! I especially remember how each book felt like a treasure, a special gift just for me.

Thank you RIF for all the sweet childhood memories you gave...and are still giving!

  • Favorite childhood book: I Know an Old Lady by Rose Bonne and Alan Mills.

  • What do you read now? Nonfiction books.

  • Now that you are grown up, what do you do? I am a case worker for a senior citizens center in Queens, New York. 70's

I am also happily married to one of New York's boldest: my husband Alex is a corrections officer at Rikers Island. He is also a RIF Alum from the 1970's (at P.S.123 and P.S.86 in Brooklyn) and has shared his special memories of RIF with me.

We are the very proud parents of Jessica, age 10, and Danielle, age 8, who are both very good students and enthusiastic readers!
