Patricia MortonPatricia Morton

  • RIF alum years: 1970s & 2000s.

  • Favorite childhood book: Amelia Bedelia

  • Favorite RIF memory: The first time I participated in RIF was 1979. I had just moved to Kentucky and didn't know anything about the program. One of the teachers dressed as Amelia Bedelia and remained in character all day. In 2001 I was blessed with becoming a RIF coordinator. It has truly been a rewarding experience. About two months ago, I went to see a show and was surprised to see "Amelia Bedelia" there. It has been 26 years since I have seen this teacher protray Amelia and she just gets better. (In the photo above, Patricia is pictured with her fourth grade teacher on the left and "Amelia"/RIF coordinator Julia Richardson on the right.) I told her when I placed the first book order for the school, the first book I ordered was Amelia Bedelia because of the difference the coordinator made in my life. She made the character come to life for me and I have loved the series ever since. In reality it was the memory of her and how wonderful she made the RIF experience that led me to apply for the RIF grant. So not only did she bless hundreds of students in the '70s and early '80s with RIF, she has blessed my students as well.
