Summary:

Keep a nature log to track changes in nature.

Activity:Hike on the same path at different times of the year. Show your children how nature changes. Have them write or draw what they see in a notebook.

For example:

  • Draw pictures of tress and flowering plants.
  • Trace fallen leaves and color them.
  • Turn over a large stone. Draw what's underneath.
  • Collect seeds from plants and trees. Tape them to the page.
  • Check out a nature guide book at the library. Find pictures of the plants and animals seen along the trail, then write the their names in the log.
  • If you see animals, list things that may explain why they are there. Are there nuts on the trees? A puddle or pond? Crumbs on a park bench?
