Mighty Morphin Power Finger

Materials: Chair

While Superman can stop a bullet with his chest, you can prevent a person from standing with just one finger. Here's how:

  1. Ask a friend or family member to sit in a chair. Make sure her back is straight, hands are flat on her lap, and feet are flat on the floor.

  2. Place the tip of your pointer finger (the one next to your thumb) on her forehead.

  3. Have her try to stand up without using her hands or bending her back.

You'll both be amazed at what doesn't happen!

How's that possible?

Pepper Bandits

Materials: small bowl, ground black pepper, liquid dish detergent, water

Have you ever seen black pepper scurry like mice? If not, try this fleeing pepper experiment:

  1. Fill half of the bowl with water.Pepper bandit

  2. Sprinkle black pepper onto the water.

  3. Coat the tip of your finger with liquid dish detergent.

  4. Dip your coated finger into the bowl.

What happens to the pepper?

How's that possible?

The Hokey Pokey Leak-proof Bag

Materials: ziplock plastic bag, water, pencils

Why carry water around in a cup with one hole when you can carry it around in a bag with lots of holes? To make your very own leak-proof bag:

  1. Fill two-thirds of a ziplock bag with water. Then close the zipper.

  2. Hold the top of the bag as you poke a pencil through it, below the water line.

  3. Poke another pencil into the bag, through the water, and out the other side.

What happens if you pull a pencil out and put it through the same hole again? Alternately, what happens if you poke the bag above the water line?

How's that possible?
