With the help of her new pal, whom she names Winn-Dixie, Opal makes a variety of new, interesting friends and spends the summer collecting stories about them and thinking about her absent mother. But because of Winn-Dixie, or perhaps because she has grown, Opal learns to let go, just a little, and that friendship -- and forgiveness -- can sneak up on you like a sudden summer storm.

I like this book because it is nice and a dog makes a a girl have many friends. A girl got this dog when she was in a store. She actually found him. She named him Winn -Dixie. Then she made two friends because of Winn- Dixie. That's why they call this book Because of Winn-Dixie.

I like this book because it is funny. I liked the part when Winn Dixie got a bath. It was a mess! Winn Dixie was afraid of thunder and he ran all around the trailer. Opal's neighbors told Opal that Gloria Dump was a witch but she was not. I also liked when Gloria Dump gave Opal the Lekmus Losenge.

I loved this book when I first heard it as a read- aloud. It's a touching story of a preacher's daughter who has no friends. Her mother is gone and her father is solemn. Opal goes through alot in this book especially with her new friend, Winn Dixie. Winn Dixie isn't your average buddy, Winn Dixie is a dog. I think this affects the story as much as it affects the character. It should be made into a movie.
