Palmer LaRue is running out of birthdays. For as long as he can remember, he's dreaded the day he turns 10 - the day he'll take his place beside all the other ten-year-old boys in town, the day he'll be a wringer. But Palmer doesn't want to be a wringer. It's one of the first things he learned about himself and it's one of the biggest things he has to hide. In Palmer's town being a wringer is an honor, a tradition passed down from father to son. Palmer can't stop himself from being a wringer just like he can't stop himself from growing one year older, just like he can't stand up to a whole town - right? Newbery Medal winner Jerry Spinelli's most powerful novel yet is a gripping tale of how one boy learns how not to be afraid.

This book was a class asssignment and at first I didn't feel like reading it. I will never judge a book by its cover again, because I had to go on vacation and my teacher told me to take it with me. I took the chance and I read the whole book in an hour! When my dad was blasting the radio, I reached and turned it down. When the wind was flipping my book, I shut the window even though it was blazing! And when my dad talked to me, I didn't listen. That's how much I think it is good. Man, I could never get tired of it. I recommend it to anyone who does or doesn't like reading. It's a MUST read. Seriously you haven't lived til you've read this book!

This book was really good--it was a real page turner, and the theme was a great theme. The theme was stand up for yourself and don't do what you don't want to do. I would recommend this to some of my friends and to people who love to read books.
