Summary: Shirley Temple Wong sails from China to America with a heart full of dreams. Her new home is Brooklyn, New York. America is indeed a land full of wonders, but Shirley doesn't know any English, so it's hard to make friends. Then a miracle - baseball - happens. It is 1947, and Jackie Robinson, star of the Brooklyn Dodgers, is everyone's hero. Jackie Robinson is proving that a black man, the grandson of a slave, can make a difference in America and for Shirley as well, on the ball field and off, America becomes the land of opportunity.

I think this book is good especially when she gets to hand the key to Jackie Robinson. It was funny and kind of interesting.

It was good because it shows that sometimes your dreams can come true. You can meet your role model. No matter what happens, you always have friends to count on.

Review:

This book is about a girl named Bandit that finds out she has to move to America. She tries to think of an American name, but all she can think of is Uncle Sam and Shirley Temple. She then came to a conclusion that her name in America was going to be Shirley Temple Wong. When she moves to America she has to go to the store to buy her dad cigarettes. On her way home from the store, she got lost. Her dad then found her and took her home. When she went to school in America, it was hard for her to make friends. Then by the end of the book she had made a whole lot of friends. She even had a best friend named Emily Levy. Emily was supposed to hand the key to P.S. 8 to Jackie Robinson, but she decided that Shirley should get them instead. Overall, I think that In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson was a good book.
