Bronze and mixed media Collection of the Artist Photograph (c) 2003 by Wyatt Gallery
Look at this! Have you ever imagined what it would be like to walk into a painting and have it come alive? American sculptor J. Seward Johnson, Jr. helps us do just that. He has taken a number of Impressionist paintings and turned them into three-dimensional scenes, creating life-size sculptures with painted backdrops. Could you tell that this is actually a photograph of a sculpture? This one is based on Vincent van Goghs famous painting, The Bedroom, made in 1889.
Think about it. What kind of mood does he convey by the colors and the way he paints the furniture? Would you like to live in this room? Does it look like your bedroom at home?
Get creative! Who do you think lives in this room? Write a poem about that person. Or think about how this room compares to yours, and write a descriptive poem about a favorite room in your house.
