Lucy Cousins
Lucy Cousins is the award-winning creator of Maisy, the most beloved mouse since Stuart Little. After graduating with a degree in graphic design, she came up with Maisy while doodling various animals on a sheet of paper.
Since the first Maisy book debuted in 1990, Lucy's mouse has appeared in dozens of books. It is also the star of a Noggin television series and has even graced a USPS postage stamp.
But there's more to Lucy than Maisy. She has also written and illustrated Za Za's Baby Brother, Jazzy in the Jungle, Hooray for Fish, and others.
Lucy lives in Hampshire, England with her husband and four children.
These are a few of Lucy's favorite things:
Favorite book as a child
The Story of Babar (the elephant). I loved the pictures.

S. It's just a squiggle but it looks great. Lots of nice things begin with S—sun, sausages, sea, socks, swimming, sweets, sand, stars...
Favorite number
Four, because I have four children.
Favorite color
Yellow. It’s bright and cheerful like sunshine.
Favorite shape
Circle. It’s soft with no sharp angles.
Favorite body part
Hands. Everyone’s hands are very different. They’re interesting to look at but very hard to draw.
Favorite person (dead or alive)
My husband Stevie and my four children, because they’re all lovely.
Favorite food
Apple and almond pudding, it's a delicious hot pudding that's perfect for cheering up cold winter days.
Favorite place
Tobago in the Caribbean. I’ve had two wonderful holidays there with my family. It’s very laid back, warm and colorful.
Favorite animal (existing or extinct)
My dog, Rosie. She’s affectionate and playful, and is lovely and scruffy.
Favorite hobby/fun thing to do
Swimming in the sea, especially if there are waves to splash around in.
Favorite time of day
The morning, because you’ve got the whole day ahead of you and anything could happen.
