Noah Z. Jones

Growing up, Noah Z. Jones loved all things monsters and dinosaurs. In fact, he realized he wanted to be an artist when he participated in a monster-drawing contest in 5th grade. Years later, Noah was thrilled to illustrate The Monster in the Backpack, about a young girl who unzips her new, flowered backpack and finds a monster inside.

In his spare time, Noah enjoys creating wacky monsters and posting them on his website. He not only names his monsters, he also details their favorite TV shows, secret dreams, and more.  View Noah’s Monster Gang.

These are a few of Noah's favorite things:

Favorite book as a child

Professor Wormbog in Search for the Zipperump-A-Zoo by Mercer Mayer. It is very funny and chock full of fantastic monsters.

Favorite letter or word

The letter Z. It has so much zip, zing, and pizzazz. And it’s my middle initial!

Favorite number

The phone number of our local pizza place, because they have outstanding pizza.

Favorite color

Yellow. It reminds me of sunny days, dandelions, and tacos.

Favorite shape

I like the shape of a nice, delicious taco.

Favorite body part

Eyes. Whenever I’m drawing a new character, I start with their eyes.

Favorite person (dead or alive)

It’s a tie between my wonderful wife, Diane, and our adorable son, Eli. They make every day exciting and action-packed.

Favorite food

Tacos! Because they are the perfect food.

Favorite place

The beach. I could sit on a beach reading a book and listening to the waves all day long.

Favorite animal (existing or extinct)

My dog Otto. He keeps me company when I’m drawing at home.

Favorite hobby/fun thing to do

When I have some spare time, my favorite thing to do is to whip out my sketchbook and draw whatever I can think up.

Favorite time of day

I love staying up late, working on a book or some other project. Especially during the summer when I can have the windows open and a night breeze is whispering through the air.
