Mo Willems

Mo Willems is more than just an author and illustrator. He's "your pal" too, according the covers of his books. Mo seems to know just what kids (and pigeons) are thinking. He knows how hard it is to lose a Knuffle Bunny, especially when Dad doesn't understand what you're saying. He knows that taking Time to Pee! isn't always easy. And he also realizes that pigeons really do want to drive the bus, even if that isn't a good idea.

These are a few of Mo's favorite things:

round purple bulletFavorite book as a child

The Adventures of Lazer Brain, a weird comic book about a space hero who lost his brain in a laser accident and was generally less helpful than he thought.  It was my favorite because I wrote and drew it.  Your favorite book should always be something you've made.

round purple bulletFavorite letter or word

Banana.  It's a fun word to say over and over. Try it: banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana! Or, maybe kumquat!

round purple bulletFavorite number

My favorite number has to be a prime number, symmetrical, look like two very big eyes, and be the date of my birthday.  Who else could do that except good 'ol number 11?

round purple bulletFavorite color

I like burnt orange, mustards, and other colors of New England Autumn.

round purple bulletFavorite shape

A squiggle.  It's one of the few shapes that looks like it's spelled.

round purple bulletFavorite body part

A baby's foot.  I just love 'em. And did you know that many babies have two of them!  Excellent!

round purple bulletFavorite person (dead or alive)

Oh, I prefer alive people to dead people for lots of reasons, like they can play dominos and smell better than not-alive people.

round purple bulletFavorite food

Pasta-A-La-Mo, a delicious mixture of pasta, light tomato sauce, sausage, and spices that my culinarily talented wife makes on when I'm either very happy or terribly sad.

round purple bulletFavorite place

The Prospect Park Carousel in Brooklyn, NY. It's the most beautiful fully restored turn-of-the-century carousel that I can walk to.

round purple bulletFavorite animal (existing or extinct)

My daughter, the little monkey.

round purple bulletFavorite hobby/fun thing to do

Kayaking in still, quiet water. Because kayaking on the sidewalk isn't really much fun!

round purple bulletFavorite time of day

Nap time.  Zzzzzzzz!
