Eric Carle

When Eric Carle was growing up, he always knew he wanted to make pictures. His creative interests were encouraged by a kindergarten teacher who told his parents to nurture their son's talent.

Now in his eighties, Eric is one of the most beloved children's book illustrators of the 20th century. From Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? to The Very Hungry Caterpillar, his colorful collage illustrations continue to entertain and educate children around the world.

Eric is the thirteenth recipient of the American Library Association's prestigious Laura Ingalls Wilder Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also the founder of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Mass., the first museum in the country devoted exclusively to picture book art.
