Family "Read-olutions" for 2008

Now that the holidays have ended, it’s a great time to make some New Year’s “Read-olutions” as a family.

As a parent, you know that reading is important, but sometimes it can get overlooked in the hustle and bustle of school projects, play dates, dance practice, soccer games, and so on.

In 2008, resolve to make literacy a priority in your family. Get started by pledging at least one of these read-olutions for 2008:

OneWe pledge to read anything and everything. From books to billboards to catalogs and cereal boxes, nothing is too big or too small for us to read together as a family.

TwoWe pledge to keep different kinds of reading material, such as newspapers, magazines, and books, around the house.

ThreeWe pledge to dedicate a space in our home to reading—even just a quiet corner of the living room will do! We will keep that space well-stocked with reading material.

FourWe pledge to dedicate one night each week to reading. Some weeks we may choose to read aloud to each other, while the next week we may all read our own books silently.

fiveWe pledge to encourage each other to read. It's easy to forget just how important reading is, so we will work hard as a family to support each other's good reading habits.
