Reading Planet Powwow - Kuwawata

Ball and Triangle Game

Ages: 6 and up
Materials: cardboard, string, large bead, scissors, colored markers

The ball and triangle toy is from the Penobscot Indians who live in what is now New England. It was originally made out of bark, a leather cord, and a round stone. Today, make your very own version of this toy using cardboard, string, and a large bead.

Ball and Triangle imageDirections:

  1. Cut a piece of cardboard into a triangle.
  2. Make a hole in the center. The hole should be larger than the bead.
  3. Draw designs on the triangle using colored markers.
  4. Punch a small hole in a corner of the triangle and tie one end of the string through it.
  5. Tie the other end of the string through the bead.

Now you're ready to play the ball and triangle game!

How to Play:

Hold the triangle in your hand. Flip up the ball and try to get it to all through the center hole.
