RIF's Back-to-School Writing Contest: Winning Essay

My First Day of Kindergarten

When it was my first day in kindergarten I was very excited to go to recess.  The best part about it was I made friends.  I have Destiny and Julianna for friends.  I made a penguin and I made a turtle.  I played in centers.  That was the best part of the day.  I missed my mommy and I cried.  If I was real quiet my teacher got out a puppet named Sandy.  Sandy has some friends.  She has a pencil friend that we've never seen.  She also has Sally Scissors, Glue Gail, and Charlie Crayon.  I stopped crying when I saw Sandy.  When it was time to go home my mommy picked me up.  I was so happy to see my mommy.  I was excited to go back to school the next day.
