RIF's Back-to-School Writing Contest: Winning Essay

My First Day of School
By Darion Y.
Age 5
St. Mary, LA

My name is Darion.  I am in kindergarten and my teacher is Mrs. Baudoin.  On my first day of school, I was a little scared.  I didn't know if I would see any of my friends.  I didn't know how to do homework.

When I went to Mrs. Baudoin's class, I felt better because I saw some of my old friends.  I was happy that Mrs. Baudoin was my teacher.

Mrs. Baudoin read us a story named "Kissing Hand."  It was a good story because it said if my mother kissed the palm of my hand, and I put my hand on my cheek, the kiss would go to my heart.
