Incredible Lea

Suppose I was as fast as my dog Lea:
I would run faster than the speed of sunlight.

Suppose I could jump higher than my dog Lea:
I would jump over the misty Ko`olau Mountains.

Suppose I could be as lazy as my dog Lea:
I wouldn’t have to go to school
and study for my spelling tests.

Or that I could hear as well as Lea--
I could hear the buzz of a bee
or the hum of a mosquito.

Or that I could see farther than Lea
into the Nu`uanu Valley
full of wild boar and mongoose.

Or that I could smell better than Lea:
I would be able to smell my mom's
steak and saimin from way down the street.

It could be that Lea is the only
wonderful pet I'll ever have.

It could be that everyday is a happy day
when I see her after school
waiting for me in my dad's car.

But I know that for the rest of my life,
I will remember Lea
as the most incredible dog.
