Family Of Readers:

When You Empower Parents, You Empower Children

Our Family of Readers program helps parents develop the skills and confidence to take a leadership role in their children’s reading, learning, and love of books. Through a series of workshops, parents learn about selecting the best children’s books, are taught how to read aloud to their kids, and help to plan a reading event in their community.

RIF's Family of Readers program serves tens of thousands of children and parents across the country, with special attention paid to at-risk families with children in elementary school. This literacy service is used in educational and parenting programs that emphasize child interaction. It also adds value to Head Start and other child-serving programs focused on increasing parental involvement, and it reinforces the goals of intergenerational programs such as Even Start.

Program Goals

  • Improve family reading skills and enhance family interaction by sharing books with children.
  • Promote parents’ confidence as participants in their children’s education.
  • Foster supportive relationships among parents who face similar challenges.
  • Encourage program advisors to become advocates for parents’ needs.

Please contact us if you are interested in starting a RIF Family of Readers program.
