RIF Program Excellence Honors – This celebration, sponsored by MetLife Foundation, honors 25 of RIF's most outstanding programs and their volunteers. RIF's Third Annual Gift of Reading Awards Gala, took place on Wednesday, September 26, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington. The gala not only raised awareness of RIF's mission within the corporate community, our largest individual supporters, and on Capitol Hill but also generated essential funds to enhance the quality and impact of RIF's work, which extends across the U.S. to every state and territory. This year's theme was "Behind Every Book is a Story" and showcased our most beloved childhood books. View 2007 RIF Gala Honorees. Volunteer of the Year Award – The Anne Richardson RIF Volunteer of the Year Award program recognizes the inspiring work of RIF volunteers and volunteer coordinators nationwide. Online Contests for Kids – Throughout the year, the RIF Reading Planet offers several contests for kids. 2007 Community Reading Challenge – RIF, with sponsorship by the MetLife Foundation, is hosting ¡Leamos Juntos!: Let's Read Together 2007 MLF Hispanic Community Reading Challenge. In this year's challenge, RIF sites will be encouraged to use imagination and creativity to organize events that share the excitement of reading with Hispanic children and their communities.
Nestlé Very Best in Youth – Every two years, the Nestlé Very Best in Youth program offers children ages nine to 18 the opportunity to be honored as one of 30 outstanding young people who have made reading a priority in their lives, and who have made tangible contributions to the quality of life in their communities. |

In addition to running numerous book distribution programs nationwide, RIF also holds a number of events and contests each year to help inspire young children to read. These exciting and motivational events are a reminder to everyone that reading really is fun.
