The RIF Community Reading Challenge
Read With Me: The 2005 RIF® Community Reading Challenge, made possible by MetLife Foundation, fosters a new generation of lifelong readers by bringing the entire community together to participate in two fun-filled weeks of literacy activities.
In this year’s challenge, RIF sites are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to organize a variety of reading events that take place everywhere—school, home, library, or any public location—and share the excitement of reading with everyone. Whether it’s a reading rally at a shopping center, a family read-aloud night at the library, or even a book distribution at school with guest readers, the focus is on engaging kids, families, and community members in group reading motivation activities that are fun and original.
By participating in the challenge, RIF sites will inspire children to read and will build lasting relationships with family and community members who can help now and in the future. Make reading a priority for everyone and watch the community spirit soar for literacy. Get involved today! History
For nearly two decades, children in RIF programs have participated in national RIF reading challenges. In 2001, with the support of MetLife Foundation, RIF launched a new challenge not only for children, but for members of their communities: Read With Me: The RIF Community Reading Challenge. The initiative provides useful contest materials to children, families, and RIF sites and encourages all participants to come together to create a nation of lifelong readers. Thousands of parents, grandparents, business leaders, public officials, celebrities, as well as older children, have joined together to support and promote children’s literacy with RIF.
