State & Regional Initiatives
RIF's State and Regional (S&R) Initiatives grew out of a desire to create more large-scale, multi-site RIF programs across the United States. RIF programs running on a larger scope (whether city, state, district, or nationwide) often:
- experience increased exposure both in the local media and to other organizations in their area;
- find it easier to raise matching funds from local contributors due to an enhanced and more recognizable presence in the local community; and
- enjoy more autonomy than single-site programs because individual sites in the multi-site program report only to the sponsoring agency, not to the national RIF office.
Goals of the Initiatives
Through a concentrated effort to create larger programs, RIF hopes to:
- increase the awareness and presence of RIF in targeted areas across the country;
- initiate statewide, city-wide and/or county-wide RIF programs in high-need areas; and
- support the existing literacy projects and goals of local communities through the addition of RIF programs.
