RIF's executive officers work at Reading Is Fundamental's national office in Washington, D.C., providing daily leadership and direction to RIF's important work.

President and Chief Executive Officer

In November 2001, Carol Hampton Rasco was named president and chief executive officer of Reading Is Fundamental, Inc., America's oldest and largest nonprofit children's and family literacy organization. Throughout her life, Rasco has been a devoted advocate for children, youth, and families, as a professional and as a volunteer.

Prior to this position, Rasco was the executive director for government relations at the College Board. From 1997 through 2000, Rasco served as the Senior Adviser to U.S. Secretary of Education, Richard W. Riley, and as director of the America Reads Challenge, a four-year national campaign to promote the importance of all children reading well and independently by the end of the third grade. Previously, Rasco worked for four years in the White House as domestic policy adviser to the president and directed the Domestic Policy Council. Read more ...

Lynn CronebergerLynn Croneberger
Vice President of Development

In September 2007, Lynn M. Croneberger was named the vice president of development at Reading Is Fundamental.

Croneberger, a Certified Fund Raising Executive, previously served as the chief development officer of Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care in Washington, D.C. Before moving to Washington, D.C., Croneberger was executive director of Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation and Memorial Foundation in Hollywood, Fla. Read more...

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Prior to joining RIF, Jeffrey Galginaitis worked as an independent consultant assisting nonprofit organizations with charitable registrations and accounting and finance issues. He has also served as the controller of the United Way of America and the chief financial officer of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. Read more...

Dr. Gabrielle MillerGabrielle Miller
Vice President of Education and Literacy Programs

Before joining RIF, Gabrielle Miller served as assistant vice president of Educational Programs at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Md., where she held a number of positions over the past 14 years. In that role Miller was primarily responsible for new program development and educational research. Among her recent research efforts she was a co-investigator on two reading research projects each of which evaluated interventions for children at-risk for learning failure; one focused on pre-school populations and the other on adolescent populations. Read more...

Vice President and Chief Information Officer

As Chief Information Officer, Peter Patel brings to Reading Is Fundamental over 12 years experience in managing information technology for both corporate and nonprofit organizations. Joining RIF in January of 2005, he successfully led the organization’s conversion of paper-based contract management to a fully automated web-based system, connecting the RIF national office to 3,500 local RIF programs throughout the United States. Sonya WilliamsSonya Williams
Vice President, Human Resources and Administration

  Sonya Williams joined RIF in September 2007 as vice president of Human Resources and Administration.  She has nearly 20 years of experience in the human resources field.

Prior to joining RIF, Williams served as the Human Resources director for The American Occupational Therapy Association in Bethesda, Md., and the Human Resources director for Hearts & Homes For Youth, Inc., in Silver Spring, Md.  She has also served as the employee benefits manager for the American Bankers Association in Washington, D.C. Read more...
