Classroom Collections

* Note: We are grateful to The Coca-Cola Company for their help with the successful implementation of this project, which was completed in 2005.

Working exclusively through existing RIF programs across the nation, the RIF/Coca-Cola partnership will place 10,000 Classroom Collections in some of the nation's most disadvantaged schools. The collections, which are small classroom-based libraries, will contain between 100-110 high-quality hardback books, and are aimed at kindergarten through third grade, a critical period in a child's educational development. Locations receiving these collections are chosen by Reading Is Fundamental among existing RIF single-site programs that serve a large proportion of at-risk students.

The collections will provide teachers and RIF volunteers with an unmatched resource to ensure that kids at risk of educational failure have unprecedented access to good books that they can read, borrow, and take home to share with their families. Designed to bridge the gap between the classroom and the living room, resources will be provided with each collection to encourage the kind of interaction between kids, teachers, and family members that is critical for the development of lifelong reading skills.

FAQ About Classroom Collections:

Can individuals, school systems, or Coca-Cola Company Bottlers buy additional Classroom Collections to distribute to schools other than those affiliated with RIF?
The 10,000 Classroom Collections that are funded as part of the RIF/Coca-Cola partnership are exclusively for the use of existing RIF programs. However, RIF is prepared to facilitate the distribution of Classroom Collections, along with modified supporting program materials, to non-RIF sites, subject to certain conditions, requirements, and fees. Those who wish to purchase a collection for a non-RIF recipient will also make a contribution to Reading Is Fundamental that funds the distribution of an additional library for use in the formal Classroom Collections project. The contribution will enable RIF to expand its efforts beyond the 10,000 collections funded directly by The Coca-Cola Co., enhancing service to at-risk populations. A portion of the total fee may be considered a tax-deductible contribution to Reading Is Fundamental.
