Word Root Lesson on "Dic/Dict"

The word dictionary is derived from the Latin root dic/dict which means "to say, speak, or tell." What do you think a dictionary has to do with the concepts of say, speak, or tell? Use this lesson to invite students to explore the word root dic/dict-, to learn how it appears in different words, and strengthen their vocabulary, background knowledge, and comprehension through a fun, meaningful activity. National Dictionary Day is October 16th, commemorating the birthday of Noah Webster, publisher of the first American dictionary.
