When Anne Shirley, an orphan, is adopted by brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, she must prove to them that she can work the farm as well as a boy. Set in the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island in Canada, the book describes Anne’s adventures and how she adjusts to her new life.
