Rocco Celebrates America's 250th Birthday at the White House!
Rocco begins the book by welcoming readers on a special tour of the White House. He takes us all the way back to July 4, 1776—before the White House even existed—then jumps forward to walk beside President George Washington as the brand‑new house is being built. From there, he guides us through the famous halls and State Rooms, and even makes a fun stop at the modern‑day exhibit called The People’s House: A White House Experience.
“Today the White House is like a time capsule of American history!” Rocco says. “It holds interesting things that belonged to every president and shows how America has grown and changed.”
As he leads the tour, Rocco explains that the White House holds memories of both proud and difficult moments in our nation’s past. He pauses in the Lincoln Bedroom, where a copy of the Gettysburg Address is displayed, and reminds readers that Lincoln’s words echo the Declaration of Independence—everyone is equal, and a government run by the people must continue.
Rocco also shares happy moments from history. In the Oval Office, he tells the story of President Richard M. Nixon calling the Apollo 11 astronauts as they landed on the moon.
At the end of the tour, Rocco steps outside to watch the fireworks and announces, “The White House is my favorite place to celebrate our nation’s birthdays. There is so much to learn about America’s history here!”
