A Picture Book of Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt started out as a quiet, shy girl, but she grew up to become someone who cared deeply about people everywhere. She married Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1904, and later became America’s First Lady when he was president from 1932 to 1945.
During the Great Depression, when many families were struggling, Eleanor traveled to towns, cities, and farms across the country to listen, learn, and bring hope. She gave speeches, spoke on the radio, and even wrote her own newspaper column to stay connected with people.
During World War II, she encouraged American soldiers and worked hard to support them. After her husband died, she continued helping others by serving at the United Nations, where she led the Commission on Human Rights.
Eleanor Roosevelt is remembered as a brave, caring leader who used her voice to make life better for millions of people.
