The Secret Identity of Bullfrog Girl (Hard)

Can I tell you a secret? Bullfrog Girl’s name is really Betty Tate. I know because I was there the day she got her powers. We were playing in the bayou together. Betty caught a bullfrog. There was something strange about it—I swear it was glowing. Not a lot, but just a little bit. I dared Betty to lick it. I said I’d give her my new baseball bat to lick it. Shoot, I really never expected to have to give her that bat.

East of the Sun and West of the Moon (Hard)

Once upon a time there was a very poor man who had a very big family and not enough money to feed and clothe them. One stormy evening, the man opened the door to find a huge white bear standing outside. The bear said to the man, “Give me your youngest, prettiest daughter and I will make you richer than your wildest dreams.” All eyes fell on Helga, for she was the youngest and prettiest daughter.

The Making of a Legend (Medium)

Paul Bunyan is an American legend. Legends often start with an unusual story about an event or person. The story is told over and over again. As time passes, the story gets exaggerated. Storytellers add to the story. Soon it becomes larger than life—a legend.

So how did the legend of Paul Bunyan start? Historians believe it is based on a combination of tales about two real-life men. Both were French-Canadian lumberjacks who lived in the 1800s.
