A Quilt of Stars: Astronaut Karen Nyberg Stitches a Dream
Dr. Karen Nyberg always dreamed of reaching the stars. And when she finally made it to space, she wanted to share the amazing view with everyone back on Earth. From far away, she thought our planet looked like a giant quilt made of different people, places, and colors. So she decided to use her sewing skills — in space!
While living on the International Space Station, Karen and NASA invited people all over the world to help make a special community quilt. Thousands of crafters from more than 30 countries stitched their own quilt squares. All the pieces were joined together to create 28 huge quilts that were displayed at the International Quilt Festival in Houston.
With fun space facts on every page, A Quilt of Stars tells the true story of how Karen Nyberg stitched creativity, science, and people from around the world together.
