Career Opportunity

A part-time human resource (HR) director is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating human resources activities and support to leaders and staff as well as strategic aspects of human resources within an organization. This includes performance planning and evaluation, benefits administration and the lead driving RIF's culture statement as we are Joy in our work, Joy in our relationships, and joy in our impact.

Part-Time

Essential Duties:

  • Developing procedures for, and executing, recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of new employees
  • Establishing training and development programs at all levels of the organization
  • Lead performance review processes and support management in coaching and developing employees
  • Overseeing pay, benefits, and leave including ensuring appropriate pay scales for each position and leading the annual open enrollment process
  • Creating, revising, and recommending employment and personnel policies and procedures
  • Manage and execute payroll processing
  • Ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations in DC area and California, such as EEOC, MCHR, FLSA, and FMLA
  • Manage employee relations, investigations, and conflict resolution effectively and ethically.
  • Providing support to employees during challenges, and helping them with issues related to health insurance, retirement, vacation, and more
  • Developing and implementing programs to recognize and reward employees
  • Managing and executing the HR department's daily workflow, and overseeing employee records, job descriptions, and classifications
  • Driving RIF's culture by leading staff events and engagement initiatives including the staff newsletter
  • Management of the organization's intern program
  • Partner with Development to present RIF programs for corporate employee giving campaigns

Knowledge, Skill, and Experience:

  • 10+ years human resources experience
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, and personnel information services
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field.
  • Proficient in human resource information systems as well as benefit and payroll systems and processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Self-starter who is highly collaborative, resourceful, and agile.
  • Capacity to work in a collegial environment.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Reading Is Fundamental.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Work Environment: The job operates in a hybrid office work environment with regular work at RIF office and remote work from home office estimating an average of 20 hours per week with flexible schedule.
  • Travel Requirements: No travel required
  • Physical Demands: This is largely a sedentary role. Physical requirements include operating standard office equipment. Communicating orally with stakeholders, management, direct reports, and other co-workers is essential. Regular use of the telephone, computer and e-mail for communication is essential. Light lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required. Continuous typing and viewing of a computer screen required.

Salary: 

  • Pay range: $65 - $70 / hour
