New Reading Nook in Alexandria, VA Encourages Lifelong Love of Books

In September, Amazon and Reading Is Fundamental collaborated by installing a reading corner and hosting a book celebration event at Charles Barrett Elementary School.  The groups partnered to transform a corner of the school’s library, presenting the students with an enriched environment where their love for literacy can thrive.  

Investment in the Community  

The event was made possible due to the effort and contributions of generous community members. Volunteers from Amazon and RIF worked to assemble comfortable furniture, shelve books, and hold an unveiling event where students enjoyed engaging read-alouds and selected books to build their home libraries.  Amazon’s support for the project enabled 500 backpacks filled with books and supplies, and 1,000 RIF books. Artist Shawn James painted a custom mural on the walls of the reading corner, contributing to a vibrant and fresh atmosphere.
